Coaches Corner
We’ve been asking some of our volunteer coaches about their WHY. Check out this week’s featured coach Fee Edwards. Fee coaches the Puketaha Leopards (Year 7 Netball Team). She provides a fantastic insight into why she supports our tamariki with their sporting endeavours and the joy that she gets from seeing them succeed. It is neat to read how her experiences link with life-long skills and our Puketaha School Values.
We asked Fee: Why do you choose to be involved?
Couple of reasons. Firstly, I love netball and wanted to give back to a sport that has given me many years of enjoyment. Being able to get to know the students of Puketaha on a different level has been so rewarding.
We asked Fee: What makes it worthwhile from your perspective?
Introducing Netball to another generation and seeing them fall in love with it too! When a player has that “lightbulb” moment and just gets a skill or technique they’ve been taught. Watching the kids improve year on year is always a highlight.
We asked Fee: Who can get involved and what expertise/ experience is needed?
I’ve watched brand new coaches with no netball experience get amongst coaching and managing and do really well. You just need to be ready and willing to learn.
We asked Fee: What is your coaching philosophy?
We talk about teamwork a lot. My guys are a team both on and off the court. They look out for each other and show each other respect.
Fee, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you once again for your ongoing support, your insights into life as a coach and the rewards that accompany these experiences. We appreciate the time you have taken to share your thoughts with us all.
If you would like to share your coach's story or nominate a coach please contact jasonb@puketaha.school.nz. We would love to hear your why!
