Principal's Message
Kia ora koutou,
Friday is Pink Shirt Day and at our Monday morning hui, we heard about the history of Pink Shirt Day. The idea of Pink Shirt Day originated from a story back in 2007 where two boys stood up to a bully who was teasing another child for wearing a pink shirt. Now, Pink Shirt Day is celebrated globally and it reminds us to work together to stop bullying by celebrating diversity and promoting kindness and inclusiveness. This aligns very well with what we believe in at Puketaha School and is reflected in our School Values…
Integrity
“Stand up for what is right”
Celebrating Differences
“Recognise and appreciate others uniqueness”
So we encourage everyone to wear pink on Friday! The students across the school will also have the opportunity to talk about what Pink Shirt day means and talk about how to keep each other safe, value each other and be respectful.
Next week we are holding a Parent Consultation Evening around the Relationships and Sexuality Curriculum. Learning about Relationships and Sexuality is one aspect of the Health Curriculum. It is designed to help improve the overall wellbeing of children by making sure children are well informed with the knowledge they need as they grow and develop.
We are holding a parent evening to tell you more about this learning and share the key themes. We will be running small workshops for each theme where we will share the learning progressions, possible content of lessons, and you can ask questions and share your feedback with us. See below for Learning Progressions...
We will use whaanau feedback to assist us to plan our next steps in implementing the Relationships and Sexuality Curriculum into our school. If you are able to make it, we would love to see you! Please indicate on the link below if you can make it.
