Principal's Message

Good afternoon Parents, Caregivers and Children,

Lately we have been spoilt with the sunshine which has meant our children have been able to make the most of our new swimming pool. It has been so good to see.

On the swimming note, last week we had our two School Swimming Sports events, our Year 3-8 held at Fairfield College and our Year 1-2 held here at school. Like most sporting days they provided our children with an outside the classroom context to challenge themselves and celebrate their successes. At a day like swimming sports, much like cross country, it is important to note that success is measured in many ways, with podium finishes only one of the measurement instruments used. I had conversations with many children who knew the day would be a struggle for them. These children showed courage and resilience to do it anyway, it is these behaviours that we must acknowledge and celebrate. Well done to everyone of you!

Coming up tomorrow we have our Try Challenge. The spelling of this day is deliberate. Seeing our children engaged in healthy activity like this is a huge win. The excitement around the school is fantastic. The children are riding their bikes at Morning Tea and Lunch Time (road rules are pretty agile and are being established by the children as they go) with huge smiles. Having the physical environment and kaupapa that we do here at Puketaha School allows our children to do such things. I encourage as many of you as possible to come down and enjoy the day. A timetable guide has been emailed out for you to schedule in when you may be able to come and watch. Please do note the timetable is a guide only.

Some of you may be aware that the Hamilton City Council are currently seeking submissions from ratepayers for their Long Term Plan. One of the projects they are wanting feedback on is whether to build a roundabout at the T intersection of Puketaha and Gordonton Road. Personally, I am in favour of this. While the speed limit has dropped to 60kmph on Gordonton Road, this intersection still presents plenty of hazards. Many of you travel this route to and from school, so it directly impacts you. I do encourage you to go online and have your say. Please follow the link below.

Finally, this will be the final newsletter before we break for Easter. If you are travelling, please travel safe and enjoy the few days it provides us to be with our friends and whanau.

Warm Regards

Geoff
