Principal's Message

Dear Parents, Caregiver and Children,

While many of us may have spent some of the week licking our wounds around Saturday's World Cup result, I would like to give you comfort that our children have not been and when we discussed the game on Tuesday Morning assembly, their wisdom and perspective around the game, the loss was to be proud of. Much of their response was around how it was good to spread it around, we should acknowledge how well England did, gives other players an opportunity etc... It was a very empathetic lens.

The wider lesson from this context was about talking through issues and frustrations, as well as introducing the idea of 'silver linings' and how in every situation we can take the opportunity to find good from it. While the cynic could suggest it is a 'Polyanna' approach to life it is also at times a very healthy approach. Talking through issues is always a positive way forward and must be part of our approach to dealing with them.

In all our lives we have various things happening at one time and with the well being of people an ongoing rich topic at the moment we must continue to support and promote the notion of talking through things, especially with our young people. Hearing their perspective and in turn providing perspective. Forming a way forward (a plan) and establishing the positive outcomes from each scenario is part of our role as the adults in their lives.

On November the 14th we are hosting a parent evening lead by Jenny Hale from Parent Place. This evening supports us with just that, building happy, confident, resilient children. This evening aims to support us with building the skills within our children to help them be and work through their own complications. As a dad I know how tempting it is to be the American Football defence player that tackles everyone out the way to help create a non contested pathway to try line for their team mate. However, the reality is that this method does not enable our children or empower them to make decisions and navigate their way through the, at times trivial issues they are faced with.

I would love for as many of you as possible to attend this evening. Please contact Christine in our office to secure your spot.

Cheers
