As we approach the end of the term, we would like to take this opportunity to reflect on some of the wonderful moments our learners have experienced this term and the moments we have shared as a school community. First, our Puaawai Year 7 and 8 students wrapped up their “Back to the Future” unit, where they learnt about the New Zealand Land Wars at Rangiaowhai. They were able to visit the Te Awamutu Museum and some of the historical sites they had been learning about, which consolidated their learning. Our Year 5 and 6 students are enjoying their camp at Tui Ridge in Rotorua, where they have opportunities to get involved in some adventure activities, such as the giant swing and the flying fox. Then the event everyone has been talking about… the very successful Colour Run that took place last Thursday. It was a fantastic day filled with excitement, laughter, and abundant bright colours. We want to thank everyone who participated and helped make this event a success, and a huge thank you to the PTA and all the families who spread the word about the event and gathered donations from far and wide. This event was the second biggest money raiser for the school behind the Spring Fair, and it was a highlight for the students.
As we approach the Easter break, we wish you and your family a happy and restful holiday. We hope this time allows you to recharge and spend quality time with loved ones. We look forward to welcoming our students back for the start of the new term, where we will continue to work together to foster a love of learning and a strong sense of community spirit.
Ngaa mihi nui,
Nyree Olliver
Thank you to all those who helped with the Colour-Run. There was a very festive feel to this event and it was so good to see the kids, teachers, parents and spectators enjoy themselves. Lots of the photos still make me smile, thank you Mel Hammond for being our official photographer and to Nyree for the YouTube video which she shared on Class Dojo. From a financial perspective it has been the most successful fundraiser outside the Spring Fair with over $12,500 being raised after expenses. This has got the year off to such a great start and our school will definitely benefit.
As mentioned in the previous newsletter, our next event is the Puketaha Annual PTA Golf Day , held on the 9 hole course at Horsham Downs on Sunday May 7th. This is predominantly a fun event, so please get a team of four together and come and join in. We are looking for hole sponsors ($100 per hole) , prizes sponsors and teams. See flyer attached.
I would like to thank Sharyn Harrison for agreeing to take over Treasurer responsibilities for the PTA, and acknowledge all the hard work Charmaine Bradstreet has done in this role previously.
That’s about it from us this term. We hope you all have a lovely Easter and school holiday break.
Kind regards,
Merynn Connors
PTA Chairperson

We will be starting the Hell Pizza Reading Challenge next term. This is a great way to motivate our aakonga to read more! For those in Kaakano environments and those who need extra support with reading, each pizza slice signed off will be for their home reading for the week (at least three nights of reading at home), so please ensure this is signed off and they have their home school diaries on their library day. The vouchers are valid until 31/01/24. Any questions, please email Emma at library@puketaha.school.nz Thanks, Whaea Emma
