Dear Parents, Caregivers and Children,
Even though we all see it coming, this time of year consistently catches me out. Week 9 Term 4, how are we here already?
In an effort to describe this week, I have been referring to it like the crescendo of a song. The best part, the part where all elements of the song come together with increased intensity. While this week sneaks up on you, it is a wonderful week full of celebrations, connectivity and positive interactions with our children and community. Our SLC's are just one example of this, while also being an opportunity where our children are able to showcase their agency and learning in a way that is both purposeful and meaningful.
This week, I have again had the privilege in reading all the children's end of year reports. It is fair to say that our children really do have teachers who know them very well. Their comments showcase how attuned they are to each child, their levels of academic achievement and of equal importance, their learning behaviours.
Last Monday we had our final B.o.T meeting for the year. At this board meeting Nyree, Katherine and I present our E.o.Y data to the board, discuss the outcomes, and planned actions for 2021. It was very pleasing to acknowledge the achievements of our children and the progress all of them have made. It is without a doubt that children at Puketaha School are experiencing success. Our results show that 94% of children are achieving at or above the expected NZ Curriculum Level in Reading, 92% in Writing and 93% in Mathematics.
In addition to this we covered off the many property projects that are either underway or will start over the summer. Obviously our new pool was a topic of discussion. This is making excellent progress and at this stage we are on track to have it open ready for Term 1.
Finally, tomorrow evening we have our Family Picnic, a fun relaxed atmosphere where we can enjoy each others company. It will be lovely to have you there and enjoy the Christmas vibe that exists.
As I sign off for this year, I would like to finish with a thank you. Thank you for your support, care and commitment to your children and us as a school community. We are all very privileged to be a part of this place. There is plenty to be thankful for.
Merry Christmas
Geoff
