Welcome to an extra end of term edition of the School Newsletter
Dear Parents, Caregivers and Children
This week I would like to write an extra newsletter notice to acknowledge the magnificent occasion that was the Puketaha School Spring Fair and thank the many people who collectively brought it together.
As a large number of you will know Saturday was an occasion to remember. The cold, slightly frosty clear morning set the tone for the sun soaked day we were so lucky to have. With many people arriving at 7.00am for set up, us working bees were on hand to ensure every task that needed to be done was done and by 9.30am we were ready to open the gates and welcome the many people that were keen to share in the day.
With what I believe was close to 2000+ people over the nearly 5 hours there was something for everyone and for me it personified what culture and community spirit is all about. The day brought smiles to everyone I was lucky to come into contact with. I felt enormously privileged to be apart of this day and this community.
Of course the planning of this event started back in March and the real strength of it was the collaborative nature and collective effort of many. It was rewarding to be apart of the meetings we held on a monthly basis and conversations that took place where views were listened to and a shared direction was formed. It was a credit to the many people that were apart of this group and to you all, I would like to express my sincere thanks to each of you.
In addition, I would like to thank our students and teachers. Their contribution both on the day and build up to the day was significant. Our spring Fair gives a very real life learning opportunity for our children and it was pleasing to see them thrive within this context.
Finally, I would like to thank all of you for turning up. As a result of your willingness to share in this day we were able to raise $19,000.00. This is significantly more than we have been able to raise before and goes a long way to enabling our desire to build a new school pool for our children. I hope you, like me, enjoyed the day and took a wee moment to reflect and see how special it was and what a uniquely special thing we have here at Puketaha School.
Over the next two weeks, I hope you get some time to enjoy your little treasures. Allow them to rest for a bit, re charge and come back to another eventful term.
Warm Regards
Geoff Booth
