A warm welcome to our new students: Yashmeet Singh, Anahera Bayliss and George Paterson
Kia ora koutou,
With the Matariki public holiday approaching, we have been celebrating Matariki with fun activities across the school today. Matariki marks the Maaori New Year and is a time for remembering those who have passed, setting future goals, creating memories with loved ones, sharing stories, singing waiata, and enjoying kai. Today, our students have been learning more about Matariki, making crafts, singing waiata, and enjoying time together. A highlight of the day has been the shared morning tea. Thank you to everyone for sending something along with your child today. This is our first school-wide shared morning tea, and the children have been very excited. With so many treats today, we hope they still manage to sleep well tonight.
We have also been enjoying our Student-led Conferences this week, with another session scheduled for Monday. These sessions have high levels of engagement and positive feedback. Some of the most valuable feedback comes from the students, who appreciate the focused attention and the opportunity to share their learning with those who matter most to them. This process supports their sense of ownership over their learning and aligns with our goal to keep the children at the centre, ensuring learning is done with them, not to them.
The conversations between children, whaanau, and teachers strengthen school and family connections, which positively impact children’s learning. Thank you all for participating, and we hope the Learning Journal has helped you understand your child's learning journey and the feedback from teachers paints a picture of their progress and achievements so far this year.
We hope you all have a wonderful Matariki public holiday tomorrow and get the chance to spend time with your whaanau.
Ngaa mihi,
Nyree Olliver

Last week saw us get started on Spring Fair planning. There was a lot of good ideas mentioned and we will be following through with many of them. That said, we still would like to keep some of the favourites from previous fairs, and on that note we are on the lookout for a suitable car for the “Smash a Car” attraction. Please make contact if you know of one that could be donated and we can take it from there. Plus we will be having a plant stall again so all you green fingered legends out there please keep us in mind when making cuttings or sowing seeds. We would love your donations. Also we are looking to have a bead booth. So if you have a pile of beads that you are happy to part with we would love to take these off your hands. Drop them into the office and I can collect them off Christine.
We will be looking for sponsors again like we did last time. Having sponsors enables us to cover a lot of the outgoings and hireage fees before we start the fair itself. We will look to have a tier system again: Platinum $1,000, Gold $500 Silver $250 and Bronze $100. Sponsors can have their logos on any Spring Fair newsletters prior to the event, and on the flyer/map handed out on the day; they are welcome to put their flag/advertising sign near an attraction they have sponsored or would like to be seen near. Please make contact if you would like to become a Spring Fair Sponsor.
To keep the momentum going with regard to organisation we will be having a Spring Fair meeting in week one of term 3 on a Wednesday night 7.30pm in the School Staff room. All welcome.
The actual date of the fair is September 21st 10am-2pm. Please save the date!
As this is the last newsletter for Term 2, thanks to everyone for your contributions enabling another successful term, and I hope you enjoy the holiday break.
Kind regards,
Merynn Connors
