Kia ora koutou,
We got a taste of what we hope is more to come with the great weather over the long weekend.
Our students are currently working on creating invitations for the upcoming "Greats and Grands Day." This event happens annually and is designed to involve your child's extended family in their learning. The students can invite someone they consider a "great" in their life, like a family friend, aunt, or uncle for example, or a "grand" such as a grandparent. These special guests will have the opportunity to spend time in the children's learning environments, where they can see what the students have been learning. The day concludes with a picnic, so please encourage your Greats and Grands to mark the date on their calendars. They are welcome to bring a picnic, and we also have Hell's Pizza available for pre-order through KINDO, replacing the usual Fun Friday lunch ordering. The book fair will also be open over that week.
The day after Greats and Grands is a Teacher Only Day, which means the school will be closed to students. Our teachers will be engaged in professional learning related to the recent changes in the New Zealand Curriculum.
Looking ahead to the potentially hot summer, we're excited to share that the PTA as well as the Wel Energy Trust, have generously donated funds for a new shade sail at the school pool. This addition will not only protect the changing sheds from weathering but also provide more shaded space for our students during swimming sessions. We extend our gratitude to the PTA and Wel Energy Trust for their support, which enables us to enhance our school learning environment beyond what the budget allows.
We hope you have a lovely weekend,
Ngaa mihi nui,
Nyree Olliver
Thank you to those who attended Tuesday’s meeting, we had a good number who attended in person but also via a zoom link. If you would like to attend a meeting but can’t make it in person, drop me a line and we can send you a link in future. We discussed the budget for next year, and what the school’s wish-list looks like at this early stage for our school to be well resourced across the whole school and to have things that the Ministry’s budget doesn’t quite cover. There are some interesting projects in the pipeline so watch this space!
Next Tuesday’s Senior Athletics Day- Just a reminder we will be asking for baking donations for the PTA’s food stall which we have at this event. Tommy and Sonay Sharp are kindly donating the PTA some eggs so we will be selling Bacon and Eggs rolls/sandwiches for something a little different (more for the adults who come to watch) plus we will have our standard sausage sizzle and juicies available.
A big thanks also to Sharyn and Dylan Harrison who have donated a new Barbeque to the school, plus Mitre 10 for giving us a great price.
Lastly, I am still collecting any New World Stickers from anyone who may have some that they don’t think they will use themselves. If you can drop them off to Christine at the office. It is great to see these not go to waste and we can buy some prizes for a future event.
Kind regards,
Merynn Connors

Puketaha Road Gordonton Road Roundabout Update
We are happy to finally inform you that we have worked through our pavement quality issue and the contractor will be on site as of Wednesday next week (25 October) to apply the next layer of asphalt. Once this is completed they will then
- Construct the ramps on the approach to the intersection
- Apply the last layer of asphalt
- finish off the concrete kerbs
- Install signs and road marking
These works should all be completed by the end of November.
Council do apologise for the long delays that we have been having with this project and we know that you are looking forward to works being completed. Please be aware that these works will cause delays during the day over the next few weeks and please allow more time when you are travelling through the intersection, until the project is finished.

Telephone Road Closure
Kia ora
From today Waka Kotahi and Waikato District Council are inviting the Puketaha community to complete a survey to tell us about how you use the Telephone Road intersection and what impact a proposed option of closing Holland Road towards Hamilton City would have.
The survey of the community is to gauge interest in this potential option as well as gaining a better understanding of traffic patterns in the area and how the ongoing closure of the SH1B rail crossing has affected the local community.
A hard copy of the survey (attached) will be delivered to households in the Puketaha area today and it will also be available to complete online at www.nzta.govt.nz/projects/sh1b-telephone-road-rail-crossing/.
The survey closes at 5pm on Friday 3 November.
